Hani biz meleklere, "Âdem'e secde ediniz" demiştik. İblîs hariç olmak üzere, onlar hemen secde ettiler. İblîs cinlerdendi; Rabbinin emrinden dışarı çıktı. "Şimdi siz, beni bırakıp da onu ve onun zürriyetini dost mu ediniyorsunuz? Oysa onlar sizin düşmanınızdır. Zâlimler için bu ne fenâ bir takastır!"

Hani bir zamanlar meleklere demiştik ki: "Adem(oğlu) için emre amade olun!" İblis hariç hepsi emre amade olmuştu; o görünmeyen varlıklardan biriydi; sonuçta Rabbinin emrine karşı geldi. Şimdi onun size olan düşmanlığına rağmen, Beni bırakıp da onu ve onun soyunu can dostlar mı edineceksiniz? Zalimler lehine yapılan bu takas ne berbat bir takastır!

We said to the angels, "Fall prostrate before Adam." They fell prostrate, except Satan. He became a jinn, for he disobeyed the order of his Lord. Will you choose him and his descendants as lords instead of Me, even though they are your enemies? What a miserable substitute!,

And We said to the angels: "Yield to Adam." So they all yielded except for Satan. He was of the Jinn, he disobeyed the order of his Lord. Will you take him and his progeny as allies besides Me, while they are your enemy? Miserable for the transgressors is the substitute!

When We said to the controllers: "Submit to Adam." They all submitted except for Satan, he was of the Jinn, so he disobeyed the order of his Lord. "Will you take him and his progeny as allies besides Me, while they are your enemy?" Miserable for the wicked is the substitute!
